The Grass is Always Greener...

Photobucket

Do you often catch yourself thinking how some people are luckier than you, how they are well-off, how some of them had better opportunities, better jobs, better lives. We are always unconsciously comparing our lives with theirs. And often times we find ourselves lacking in something, one way or the other. And that feeling of inadequacy leads us to a place called dissatisfaction. And this dissatisfaction leads us to an unhappy life.

If we always thought that way we will never live up to it. There would always be something missing. Something lacking. And that, for me, is a total waste of our precious time. I am guilty of wanting, wishing and dreaming of better things for me and my family. But opposed to comparing our lives to others, hoping that our lives could be better is not bad...not bad at all. Did you know that how one feels and how one sees things in their life is all a matter of one's perspective?

Let me tell you a story about "Perspectives" I received on e-mail. I posted this years ago and up to now I still think it important. Always seeing the good side of life has it's pay off. So here it is.

One day a father and his rich family took his young son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night in the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip the father asked his son, "How was the trip? "Very good, Dad!"
"Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked.
"Yeah!" "And what did you learn?"

The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lamps in the garden, they have the stars.
Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole horizon.
When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless. His son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are!"

Isn't it true that it all depends on the way you look at things? If you have love, friends, family, health, good humor and a positive attitude toward life, you've got everything! You can't buy any of these things. You can have all the material possessions you can imagine, provisions for the future, etc., but if you are poor of spirit, you have nothing! Author Unknown

Allow me to finish the sentence in a different way..."The Grass is Always Greener .... when you toil and water it with passion and love.

always remember, Life is what you make it...

Happy weekend guys!

Hi Sophiagurl,

I have a friend who owns a big house and a few nice cars. Sometimes I can't help myself but to compare my life with his but then I realized that how little time that he spend with his family in his wonderful house, and how little time he spend driving his car, because he has been working so hard doing extra hours and working through the weekends to pay off his loan.

Missed you much my friend :)

Hi,
Thanks for your good wishes.
I really appreciate that.

I never compare myself to others.
I just want happiness for my friends and family.
My husband is the one who sometimes compares himself to others,,and then I tell him that, we are together ,that's what is most important..

hi Lisa,
Oh my I have read this email before too. And it made me think about things also.

has my life turned out as I envisioned as a child? No it hasn't.

I don't have a fancy house and car. We are not wealthy by any stretch of anyone's imagination if you use materialism as a measure.

But, even though I live in a double wide mobile home. I have a lovley pond full of now again with my new baby ducks.

We are out in the country and I rarely even hear the rumble of a car engine.

I can walk down to a beautiful lake in about 2 minutes, sit out on my front porch and hear so many birds sing such sweet songs.

We have children that have far exceeded anything we could have ever imagined. And both of them chose fields that help others.

I could go on and on. But the bottom line is that what I thought I wanted and what God has blessed me with is very different.

I am very grateful to God!!

Love and hugs!!:-)))

I do. I really do think of how others have this while I don't. But really, its a matter of putting things into their proper perspective.

You cannot find heaven in beautiful houses child. It is in your heart. Don't you ever look for it elsewhere. Love you very much.

Fads
i am speechless after reading this dear.

i agree with you that everything depends on our perspective.

as someone has said " grass is always green on the other side" but "the grass is always greener when u toil and water it with passion and love".

before going to sleep in this odd hour of night, i am feeling very happy and relaxed. and all the credit goes to this beautiful post of yours. thanks Sophiagirl.

hi girl... i terribly miss you too!!! don't worry, we're all busy and it usually happens... esp. that you're a working mom... oooppsss... a wonderful working mom! take care and godbless u and ur family!!!
nice one. i read from Leo Trese's book that indeed longing for something and being dissatisfied despite all we have is a sign that there is far better and satisfying life after our mortal life: heaven's eternal happiness. bec we are not meant to live "only now" but for more later.
